Holiday
Seasonal Activities wrap up 2011
A quick reflection on the events
at that made up the Holiday Season
at Designing Smiles reveals some
well spent time with the Kids at
Child Place in
Jeffersonville. Our goal was to
enhance the Holidays for some kids
less fortunate but the outcome was
that truly I believe the kids made
the difference for us. After spending
a few hours sharing cookies and
hot Chocolate and making Christmas
cards for the local nursing homes
with about 25 amazing young people
we tuned up our voices and strolled
through the Child Place neighborhood
sharing Christmas Carols with anyone
who would listen. It was a tremendously
successful evening and one that
I hope we can build on for these
children.
A
look at 2012 with Designing Smiles
Continuing Education has always
been a cornerstone of our goal of
constant improvement and this year
is no exception. Our Greater
Louisville Aesthetic Masters (GLAM)
study club has completed its first
meeting of the year here at our
facility with 25 Kentuckian Dentists
attending and sharing ideas. We
will meet 5 times this year with
a National meeting in the fall.
Our Dental Hygiene Mastermind group
also met in January with an outstanding
program driven at raising the level
of care for patients through new
preventative products and techniques.
Designing
Smiles joins the
world of Social Media
You will find more and more that
communication with our patients
can occur many times much easier
through the many social outlets
that exist. Keep an eye out for
our Emails as they will likely be
a significant source of information
for our patients as we move forward.
Face book has also proven a likely
source for providing information
to many very easily. Our new program
called Demand Force
allows us to interact seamlessly
with you at your convenience so
that untimely phone calls and calls
to be returned can be a thing of
the past. Hopefully our patients
will feel more and more comfortable
communicating with us electronically
and improving collectively every
ones use of time.
What
new and Exciting in Dentistry?
As usual, there is much to be excited
about in the world of dentistry.
Yes, Cosmetic dentistry
and the desire to have gorgeous
smiles is a constant and we continue
to have great fun with this segment
of our practice. Be sure to visit
the Smile Gallery to view some of
these awesome new smiles!
Implant
dentistry continues to
grow and evolve and allows for replacement
of teeth in the most natural of
ways. We feel confident that implants
are one of the most predictable,
life changing elements that dentistry
has to offer.
Probably
our newest area of interest that
we have been nurturing for the past
several years is in the area of
treatment of Obstructive
Sleep Apnea (OSA). We have
discovered a significant segment
of our patient population that is
affected by this disease and offer
treatment alternatives to the traditional
methods, most commonly the CPAP.
Many times this very serious and
life threatening disease can be
treated with a Custom fitted oral
appliance that positions the jaw
in such a way so as to open more
effectively the airway allowing
the patient to breath more effectively
while sleeping. This reduces the
strain on the heart and other body
systems literally extending life
and quality of life for so many.
This part of our practice has continued
to grow and expand as we now have
great interaction with the Sleep
Labs and the local Physicians treating
OSA allowing them to refer patients
for us to assist in their treatment.

SLEEPY?....
We are Interested
Over the past year Dr. Jenkins and
the Designing Smiles Team have spent
considerable time researching the
impact of Sleep, or a lack of, on
overall health and longevity. Our
findings have been shocking as we
have found that poor sleep can have
a major impact on every system in
your body. We have come to realize
that dentistry can and should play
a major role in the recognition
and treatment of Sleep related disorders
such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea
(OSA). Many of our patients suffer
with snoring and or OSA and are
unaware of the seriousness of this
condition. Many of the spouses or
partners of these LOUD sleepers
suffer their own misery trying to
sleep in the presence of noise louder
than a lawn mower which many times
results in separate sleeping quarters.

A Message From Dr. Jenkins About
OSA
--------------------------------------------
So
what if my
teeth are worn…
Over the past 10 years Dr. Jenkins
has traveled the country studying,
teaching and treating a variety
of conditions related to worn, chipped,
broken teeth in an effort to better
understand the relationship of the
jaws and teeth, referred to as the
“Occlusion”.
Tooth wear and Bite problems are
extremely prevalent in our population
and so often lead to the breakdown
and or loss of teeth. With this
in mind, you will notice a concerted
effort as you visit to recognize
the early signs of problems before
they become major issues to your
dental health.
--------------------------------------------
As
always we are extremely proud to
call ourselves “your dental
home” and we look forward
to continuing to provide the finest
environment and treatment options
for you. We will use 2010 to enhance
the lives of all of our patients
through beautiful, functional Smiles. |
